no is net x extension

A Chrome extension that identifies websites' palindromic input.

"A palindrome is a word, phrase, number, or other sequence of characters which reads the same backward or forward."

Why is symmetry appealing? Are palindromes perceived and valued as visually symmetrical compositions like mirrored pieces and rosettes? Could palindromes reflect the overall review of a work? Is discovering and creating palindromes a fun way to postpone duties or just waste some time?

Sustainable Ideation

Concept

With the initial ideation tool concept and prototype, the idea is to explore ways of aligning it to sustainability. This is the reason its gonna be submitted to Cradle to Cradle Product Design Challenge. Even though it might be slightly off track, since its a digital product, the tool can be assessed to the challenge's description and requirements:

Central to Cradle to Cradle® as a design framework is to eliminate the concept of waste — recognizing that all materials are valuable and finite and when designed appropriately can be used in infinite cycles.  Effectively implementing this design principle can have a significant impact on the environment and the economy.

The goal of this design challenge is to eliminate the concept of "waste" by designing products with materials that may be perpetually cycled to retain their value as nutrients to fuel growing global economies.

Submission Requirements

Download a pdf of the submission requirements or follow the instructions on this page. All submissions must be in English. All written material should be packaged as a single PDF document not to exceed five pages.

Submission Format

Submissions should be formatted following the outline below using the identical numbers and headings.  Please read the Official Rules prior to submission.

Disruptive Consumerism

Concept

Framing the current Peace Process between the Colombian Government and the main guerrilla group FARC, this initiative conceives the strategic need of planning ahead towards coexisting opportunities in the post-conflict scenario. How can we create post-conflict opportunities of sustainable forgiveness? The hypothesis is by allowing people to conceive reasons and ways to reinsert, live and endure through on-site specific production alternatives that span the socially-entrepreneurial panorama.

Hypothesis

By remixing local resources, with communities’ needs and unrelated concepts new opportunities may emerge and set the stage towards a coexisting mindset. Multiple socially-entrepreneurial stages that bridge the conflict’s verge and the post-conflict.

This hypothesis is highly inspired and guided by the HCD Toolkit, ethnographic documentary "Chocolate de Paz",  Culture House “Casa del Pueblo” in El Salado and the Cacao initiative of San José de Apartadó’s Peace Community.

At the same time there's various conceptual frameworks this initiative aims to involve: Ethical Consumerism (human rights, animal rights, environmental pollution), the Open Source and DIY and Social Entrepreneurship

References

Similar to brands like Patagonia or MUJI, whose corporate practices disrupt traditional practices, this initiative is in search to subvert consumerism and pos-conflict.

Counter UX —Physical + Mobile—

Concept

The general idea came from the hula-hoop toy as a cyclical activity. After some thought and happy accidents, it was clear that a scaled down version would be more suitable. As a rapid prototyping strategy, the use of glowing necklaces came in pretty handy. It not only scales up quite well to the assignment's brief, but it communicates clearly the data visualization of the activity's tentative feedback.

Insight from User Test

After some user tests, it was clear that people intuitively spin the ring in either way –clockwise and counterclockwise–, which means that the overall task of counting should be designed in line to this ambivalence.

Design Principle

This is the reason behind the two sides (white and black) of the object. When spinning the object with the white side up, it counts and whenever the black is up it basically undo the counts. The general idea is to see the circle light up in relation the the goal's progression, being counting up or down. The way to set up the mode and quantity are through embedded knobs as shown in the third illustration.

Digital Translation

Having a prototyped experience makes the UX mobile sketching easier. Nevertheless, these diagrams make the overall panoramic view of the experience much clearer.

Designing Interactions

Translating this physical experience into a digitally mobile one could go two ways. In the end, the chosen alternative will rely on user tests. The initial idea is to spin the mobile device to count and spin it the other way to undo the count. However, spinning the physical device might not be intuitively enough in mobile applications. The other hypothetical alternative is through a circular swiping gesture, consistently upon the whole app's interaction.

Generative Soundscape Concept

When studying Interactive Technologies at NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program, I was working towards an interactive installation that blended the bowling gesture to trigger scattered half-spheres to generate a musical experience. This is an evolved and collaborative idea, from the Generative Sculptural Synth. The ideal concept is an interactive synthesizer that's made up of replicated modules that generate sound. It is triggered by sphere that creates chain-reaction throughout the installation's configuration.

Methodology: Iterative Concept and Prototyping

Tools: Arduino and Little Bits

Deliverables: Prototype of a modules that communicate and trigger through motion and sound range

It started out as re-configurable soundscape and evolve into an interactive –bocce-like– generative instrument. Here's a inside scoop of the brainstorming session were we –with my teammate– sought common ground. (1. Roy's ideal pursuit 2.My ideal pursuit 3.Converged ideal)

Littlebits –whatever works–

After the slum dunk failure of the DIY Audio Input, I realize the convenience –limited– of prototyping with Littlebits. This way, I could start concentrating in the trigger event, rather than getting stuck at circuit sketching. I was able to program a simple timer for module to "hear" –boolean triggered by the microphone– and a timer for the module to "speak" –boolean to generate a tone–. What I learnt about the limitations of the Littlebit sensor is a twofold. They have a Sound Trigger and a conventional Microphone. Both bits' circuits have the embedded circuit solved out which turned out to be useful but limiting. The Sound Trigger has an adjustable Gain, an embedded –uncontrollable– 2 second timer and a pseudo-boolean output signal. So even though you can adjust it's sensibility, you can't actually work around with its values in Arduino IDE. The Microphone bit had an offsetted (±515 serial value) but its gain was rather insensible.

This is why, when conveniently using the Sound Triggers, the pitch is proportional to the distance. In other words, the modules are triggered closer when lower pitches are sensed and vice versa. However, since these bits –Sound Trigger– are pseudo-boolean, there can't be a Frequency Analysis.

Generative Synthesizer Concept

Can unpredictable melodies be created out of Constellaction’s concept?

Composition

Modules will bridge through consecutive emissions and receptions of sound. In the end, the purpose is to create a a cyclic chain that sets the stage for a greater pursue: creating a generative audio experience –like a tangible tone matrix–. In this exercise I will explore simple initial attributes such as trigger-thresholdand tempo.

Concept

How can sound-modules resemble basslines through replication? For the first phase of this project, I will explore ways of creating a module that, triggered by a sound, generate auditive-chain reactions.

Context

The general idea is to create different behaviors with these modules to the extent that they become generative. In this particular exercise –Mid-Term–, the idea is to create looped compositions that resemble bassline. By scaling these modules, emergent and unpredictable scenarios can appear.
